Star Trek ‘tractor beam’ invented by British scientists

Scientists have tuned sound waves to act like sonic tweezers which can pick up and move objects.
A Star Trek inspired ‘tractor beam’ which can levitate and move objects using sound waves has been invented by scientists. 

 The world’s first sonic beam can only move a tiny particle of less than one millimetres currently, but the team are now working on a machine that can lift a football.
Scientists from the Universities of Bristol and Sussex built a tractor beam that uses high-amplitude sound waves to create acoustic ‘tweezers’ which can pluck and shift objects.
The technique could be used to transport delicate objects and assemble them, without physical contact or transport drug capsules or microsurgical instruments through living tissue.
